SEMI-DETACHED HOUSE Humbeek
The high cut-away or visual break-line between the front extension with services and the living spaces to the rear maximally absorbs the sunlight into the house and reinforces the lightness of the space. The pointed front extension in aubergine red brickwork with garage, storage area, stairwell and children’s rooms present themselves to the street as a tight disk with large frames of windows and panels. The rear-construction with kitchen and living room looks out onto the forest and is entirely open plan because of this. The superstructure with parent room, dressing room and bathroom stands as a block on the plinth of the living room and distinguishes itself through a zinc casing of the built space. The whole tries to break through the trivial block-character of an adjacent house by distinguishing itself from this with a personal identity.
