LOFT INTERIOR Aalst
Openness, clean lines and a limited material palette were key to the design of this 230 sqm industrial loft along the quays in the center of Aalst. The demand for a typical design loft in a former malthouse, almost a classic scenario, soon resulted in the maximum preservation of the existing and only a limited number of surgeries. The retention of the rough brick wall was a specific request of the client. Because the daylight only enters through the front and rear, so the walls, ceiling and columns were resolutely painted white. All techniques such as ventilation, electricity, plumbing and heating were housed in the floor so there was room for only a few millimeters white PU cast floor. Two boxes were placed in the open space. They house the wet cells, storage and a guest bed. Depending on the desired atmosphere a red or blue light dominates the room above the boxes.
