GENERAL AVIATION TERMINAL Antwerp
Antwerp Airport wants to upgrade its current VIP terminal. The competition they organised was won by Crepain Binst Architecture. The competition design enhances the requested canopies into a conceptual ‘wing’ that combines all functional activities. The shape of the wing refers to aviation in general, while the dynamic design creates the appropriate framework to welcome VIPs. Next to being a visually dominant visiting card the wing also functions as a blind, keeping the building from heating in the summer and inviting the sun in in winter. The large surface area provides the opportunity to integrate solar cells and to recover rainwater.
