‘Won competition’. CityCampus Anderlecht (former site Gryson)
The project is the result of a collaboration between the SLRB citydev.brussels, Anderlecht and Anderlechtse Haard. The hangars, offices and on site, were demolished to make way for 72 social apartments, 298 student apartments, 18 Studios, a prevention organization and 94 parking spaces. The social housing will be taken over and managed by Anderlechtse Haard. It consists of 34 homes with 1 bedroom and 38 houses with 2 bedrooms. The student residences will be marketed by private promoter Heres. There will be 246 individual student rooms, 16 studios and 4 shared apartments. Finally the project includes around 5,000 m² studios for food companies. The site is located near the campuses of the CERIA and the COOVI, which will guarantee the success of the student residences and the SME Studios on the ground floor.

The design visually divides the site in two parts separated by a qualitative public space: a traffic-free residential neighbourhood where local residents can meet. The new social housing units around the home zone nicely relate to the existing houses in the neighborhood.
Each Studio gives access to the public square and is open to freight traffic along a courtyard that is covered with a green, large acoustic canopy to reduce the nuisance to the surrounding homes. The workshop spaces are modular and adaptable to different types of activities.
Above the ground-floor Studios, the social housing and student housing are situated. Each apartment opens up onto pleasant landscaped roof gardens that encourage the interaction between residents.
The project includes various types of social housing, including a number of units accessible for people with reduced mobility. All apartments have a private terrace or balcony, the homes along the home zone each have a private garden. The students can use the shared living, study and relaxation rooms which are spread over the entire building.
In other words, the design not only provides in the basic need for housing and SME space, but also includes qualitative common spaces raising the togetherness, social interaction and identity to a higher level.
