The brief of the competition consisted of the design of a couple of buildings in the larger scheme of the BASF-site. A new built as well as an extension of an office building and a new built Meeting Room Center. The MRC is located at the boundary of the public and private sphere on the BASF-site. Based on the idea to create a readible, accessible and welcoming building, the volume is designed to be transparant in combination with a box-in-box system.
The interior walls within act as a secondary facade, potentially carrying BASF materials, visual communication or branding. The foyer of the building is positioned towards one of the main circulation routes of the site through which a visual connection between the events at the MRC are linked with BASF activities, strenghtening them as a whole. By extruding the smallest box beyond the rooftop, a unique space is created with many opportunities: potential breakroom, expansion of the foyer, ideal location for receptions, with a panoramic view over the site and the river Schelde. The construction will take place in two phases, start working phase 1 is scheduled for autumn of 2015.
